Most customer-friendly utility website:
Southern Water's website has been recognised as the most customer-friendly site in the utility industry, topping the annual Utility Week/Webcredible usability report, published in November 2008. The independent report assessed the sites on 24 areas to see how easy customers found it to navigate around the site.

A key area singled out by Webcredible was the Customer Services online forms, with the Southern Water website receiving full marks for its advice to customers on the information needed to fill in forms such as changing address.

The report said: "With just one website gaining any points against this guideline, too many websites are running the risk of forcing users to abandon a half-completed form, wasting their effort."

Cross Solent Main Replacement microsite:
The multi-media microsite, Spotlight on the Solent, developed by Boxharry to support Southern Water's major engineering project in the Solent has scooped two major awards in 2008:
the PRCA New Media, Digital and Broadcast Award and the CIPR PRide Gold award for Best New Media.

The judges said: "A great example of how to use new media appropriately and effectively as a core element of a communications campaign." .

The microsite, included key interactive tools, including webcam feeds directly from the barge in the Solent; podcasts, blogs and a live web chat was very effective in providing lively, dynamic information and using key interactive content to encourage local engagement in the project.

Brighton and Hove Wastewater Treatment Scheme
A micro-site has been developed to provide a means for Southern Water to communicate with customers about plans for the Brighton and Hove Wastewater Treatment Scheme.

Throughout the consultation and planning process, documents have been published regularly, including the full Environmental Statement, maps and other supporting material. During consultation an online feedback facility was provided, to encourage customer input on the plans.
